Highlights of Igor’s Oct 12, Noon Zoom Briefing

  • Water came on shortly after the briefing. Boil Water!!!
  • There is still no power. The Town is not providing any dates on when services might be restored. FP&L reports they hope to have power 95% restored by October 17.
  • None of the buildings suffered any structural damage. The elevator equipment rooms stayed dry.
  • Owners with window damage have been notified. One owner with a broken window has arranged for Wilson Windows to assess their broken window on Monday. Wilson’s phone number is 941 234-2477 if you want them to look at your broken window. The office will be able to provide a key.
  • Units with broken windows are C301 and B302. Sliders are broken on C302 M308, B302 and B205.
  • The rooftop AC units for N101, N201, and N301 were hanging over the edge of the building. Staff returned them to the roof, but they will need attention from an AC contractor.
  • All buildings have small areas of damage to roof caps and soffits.
  • The beach house will be closed for some time. The beach and gulf are not considered safe due to contamination. There is one report of a bomb being found on a beach in Longboat Key from back during WW II when this was bombing range. Should you find something call the police.
  • The south fishing pier is gone and the north one damaged.
  • Pictures of boats and docks have been posted on the YC page of the website.
  • Kayak launch is on the lawn near the grills.
  • All swimming pools are full of trash and the water dark. Some of the pumps have been flooded. The main pool will be the first to get back if the equipment works. Getting all the pools working will take weeks.
  • There was no visible damage to carports or cars.
  • About 15 palm trees blew over.
  • Want to help with recovery? Make piles of debris.
  • About 1/3 of our staff were able to come to work Friday with similar numbers on Saturday. All our staff had at least some damage to their homes, with several flooded and forced to move out of the area.
  • Igor does not have power at home hindering his ability to function.
  • Gas and ice are in short supply. Stations with gas do not have power to pump it and those with power have run out.
  • Publix is open but without water or restrooms.
  • If you are “up north” and wondering when you can return, it will be at least several weeks before things start returning to normal. Even when we have home to return to, many of the places we like to go are destroyed.
  • You can text Igor at 941 812-4160 and Steve at 269 924-9481. Text, do not call.
